Scott Rice
Scott Rice is an Emmy Award winning writer-producer-director. He is also the professor of Script to Screen, a film course he co-teaches with Matthew McConaughey. Scott’s films hold a staggering film festival record of 300 Official Selections and 100 Awards. He is the only filmmaker ever nominated for two student Academy Awards in two categories in the same year.
Scott’s work has been distributed by 20th Century Fox, Sony Pictures, Comedy Central, Showtime, IMAX, Blue Sky Studios, Hulu, IFC, Chernin Entertainment, Upworthy, Vevo, Penguin Books, Blockbuster, Atomfilms and PBS. He’s produced and directed on assignment for Matthew McConaughey, Sony Pictures, A&E, STX Entertainment, MTV Networks, Tyndale and the Mental Health Channel.
Scott has directed nearly 500 commercials and won 27 ADDY Awards. His clients include Mastercard, Subway, Shell, Las Vegas, Sears, Dell, Western Digital, Virgin America, Lemi Shine, Final Draft, Merry Maids, Marriott, Bank of America and the American Heart Association.
Scott grew up in the Midwest the son of a rocket scientist. After studying under world-renowned film scholar David Bordwell, Scott began his career as an animator and art director for Activision. He scripted the groundbreaking hit game SOLDIER OF FORTUNE and has since written on assignment for Elizabeth Avellan (SPY KIDS) among others. He owns two production companies including his commercial division, Two Shot West.
Known as an actor’s director, Scott has collaborated with talent like Glenn Close, Adrien Grenier, Brett Favre, NHL great Ryan Reaves, and legendary choreographer Tina Landon. Recent credits include SPIES IN DISGUISE starring Will Smith, Emmy-winning PBS series STORIES OF THE MIND, and an IMAX museum film. Season one of his docuseries HOT SCIENCE launched in 2023. He’s currently in production on a docuseries for New York Times bestselling author, John Burke.
